That is normal for certain species of tangs.

Just out of curiosity, is your "Powder Brown" an Acanthurus nigricans or Acanthurus japonicus? I've been checking out the A. japonicus for the new reef tank...

This link can help you tell the difference: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/GoldRimSs.htm

I Have A 55 Gallon Tank. I Have 1 Powder Brown Tang, 2 Blue Damsels, 2 Clownfish, 1 Goby. Cc Starfish.

Seem To Be Getting Along Pretty Well. Works The Tank Quite Often. My Biggest Concern Is Ich Though.

I had an a. japonicus years ago. It was an unholy terror. It made it very dicey to add anything to the tank after the tang was in my tank. If you want to see some deep brown color, try adding a fish to your tank. Whooo!!! It harrassed a niger trigger almost to death. I actually put a divider down the middle of the tank, with the tang on one side and the trigger on the other. Eventually, the tang tolerated the trigger and they lived together for a few years.
