Just keep your alkalinity and calcium levels up around NSW levels and you will be fine.

oh o.k.
Thank -You
I checked my salinity and it is where it needs to be.
temp 80
PH is 8.0
nitrites at 0
ammonia 0
nitrates at 5ppm (isn't that odd ? I set everything up yesterday)
So you suggest that I get calcium, and alkalinity tests as well?

The calcium and alkalinity tests are not as important now. If you just set everything up yesterday, you will want to wait at least 4-6 weeks before anything is added anyways, IMHO. The test kits you have now will be fine until you start adding whatever it is you are goin to add.
What is your salinity at?

I took more water readings today and are as follows:

SG = 1.021
PH = 8.8 (is that to high?)
ammonia = .50
nitrite = .25
nitrate =5.

55 gallon long

40lbs of LR ( 20 Figi & 20 Marshall Island )
AC 70 HOB
2X Maxxi jet1200 powerheads
AC Remora protein skimmer HOB

I am not used to all that water movement!
I'm going to get more LR apx 40 lbs more
my 'plan' is to put in the sand after the rock is cured.

ammonia has a high pH... the pH will come down as the tank cycles.

"Go Fish!" is in Orland park... they're great. Very knowledgable, the only store that I've found that will special order (that's where I got my SeaClear 10-gallon acrylic and black sand-calcite based- from), and the prices aren't too bad either. Lots of aquacultured coral.

Actually, they have a great website! I can't remember what street it's off of. I just know it's 40 minutes away. It's on John Humphrey Drive, though.

Oh yes, I have been there! (silly me to think I passed up such a great LFS in a 40 mile radius)
They are great people! Very nice and helpful,
I've been to some places where people were so mean and unhelpful, This place is very refreshing.
