Question on Maracyn Two

I'm treating my seahorses in a 10 gallon quarantine for weak snick and parasites. I've lowered the sg to 1.015, and am getting ready to put in Maracyn Two tabs for possible secondary infection, but am hooked up on a precaution in the instructions.

The instructions said: "if activated carbon filter is more than 6 days old, it may be left in place. However, fresh activated carbon and certain chemical sponges may reduce the activity of medications and should be removed."

I am running a month old Chemi-Pure in my filter, and was wondering if I should remove it while I am dosing the tank.

Advice?

Thank you!

Steven, I enjoyed reading your articles - except for one on mycobacterium (ewwww) bacterium, I now wear gloves to clean the outside of my tank as well.

In “Marine Ich/Cryptocaryon irritans: A Discussion of this Parasite and the Treatment Options Available, Part 1.”, you advised lowering the sg 1.009-1.010. A post on syngnathid.org suggested lowering the sg to 1.014 for at least two weeks... is this sufficient to kill parasites?

1.014 is not low enough to kill ich. Hopefully, you are using a refractometer to measure your salinity. There is a fine line between killing the parasite and killing the patient.

Yaak! I will drag out the refractometer and bring the salinity down to 1.010...

I'm wondering if I should wait until tomorrow, as I already dropped the Maracyn Two tab in the tank this morning.
