trading fish
A while back, I inquired about trading fish at local lfs. They told me that they couldn't accept the fish due to some law...Has anyone heard this before? This store had gotten a lot of my business but I was turned off by this comment and a few other things.

My LFS allows me to trade fish all the time. For any reason. Its usually in the LFS' best interest, because he'll usually give you a store credit back of a little less than what you bought it for, then he can turn around and sell if for full price.

i trade a lot of fish to my lfs i get store credit of bout 1/2 the price of the fish i am trading in

My lfs usually trades straight across if it's a fish or invert I recently purchased there, or gives me a little more than half value if not. They take animals I've gotten at other lfs's and I always tell them where they've come from unless it's from Petco. They balk at taking something from Petco unless I've had it a long time.

I have traded fish to lfs for 1/3 credit and friends for free as long it's has a good home.

well i have never traded fish for fish but i have been able to bring fish back that i did not want anymore.

The LFS I do bussiness with lets me trade any fish/invert in for another for equal or lesser value! But I have ran in to a few that will only take your trade if they know you and your tank! VTEC

Normally, when you build a good repore with your LFS they will do many things such as hold your fish for you and trade fishes for credit and etc. I don't believe that such a law exists and was just created by your LFS. I would go elsewhere.
