Mail Order Live Rock?????

Is It Safe To Buy Live Rock Thru The Mail, I Will Not Be Able To Recure So It Would Have To Be Ready To Put Directly Into A Established Tank. If So Where Is A Good Place To Buy And Have Shipped To Chicago Area.

I don't think you can buy rock online that will be totally cured when it reaches your door. You can try tampa bay saltwater. They ship their rock in water. Personally I don't think it is work the risk. Buy it cured from a LFS and transport it in water.

I'm just starting out but I'm only using mail order live rock when I start out. I'm going to let it cure in the tank and then add my live stock.

I used Premium Aquatics, I'm near you so the shipping time should be the same, I purchased 40lbs at a time, as to not stress the bioload, it smelled o.k. when it came in, I checked my parameters everyday, nothing to out of the ordinary.
And I went ground shipping, it still came in the next day after I ordered it.
I love the way it looks too, much nicer then the stuff they sell at nicer LFS.

TampaBaySaltwater is the only place I've seen that advertises that they ship cured live rock wet, although I have no experience with their product. http://www.tampabaysaltwater.com/

It is much too risky to place any rock that has to be shipped into an established tank. If this is your only option (no where to cure) then you should definitely buy rock that you know is cured (because you've witnessed the rock in a curing vat for several weeks).

The only thing that would allow that to work is if there was enough liuverock already in teh aquarium, and therefore being able to offset any die-off that would happen from teh new liverock. Sounds like you got pretty lucky.
