Mixing shrimps

Just a simple question - Can I keep different kinds of shrimp in a 24" tank?

Best wishes,

Just a stupid question, but how many gallons ? But if there's enough room, typically it's ok to mix. But Coral banded shrimp are mean, and chase others.

It also depends on the species of shrimp... so, Jimmy, how many gallons is your tank and what species of shrimp are you considering?

Mixing shrimps

Thanks Bubba. I havn't proceeded yet. I've currently linked 2 tanks together; 1 is 48"x24"x24" and the other is 36" x 20" x 16". Each has two cleaner shrimps giving service to a yellow tang & a hippo in the 48" and the other 2 cleaning a purple tang in the 36". Actually I want to keep a yellow watchman goby with a pistol + 3 to 4 firefish in a 24" x 12" x 18", and to add more activities to the tank I wish to mix some cleaners and red fire or even the coral banded. Cause I'll drop the coral banded after knowing that he is a murderer. Still havn't made up my mind yet.

Best wishes,

Jimmy

I've mixed skunk cleaners (Lysmata amboinensis) with blood shrimp (Lysmata debelius) and peppermint shrimp (Lysmata wurdemanni) without any problems. They quarreled a bit the first day, but settled down and hang out together.

I have a buddy who has skunks, blood, and a pistol in the same tank without problems.

Thanks for your data, Bubba. I'll go around the LFS and see if I could get those peaceful species (I don't think there aren't too many species in Hong Kong!) first. Then I'll get the 24" tank and link it with the present system. Promise to let you know later.

Cheers,

Jimmy

Wouldn't mixing shrimp be a shrimp cocktail?
