I got two new unsuspected organisms in my tank

Today I found a 1 cm long pointed shell snail and then on my live rock there is a small 1 cm in diameter green bubble. Should I take any precautions with these organisms?

Probably not for the snail. The bubble sounds like bubble algae, not good as it can take over a tank. Emerald crabs are a good answer to the algae.

It would be best to pull it off without popping it if possible, maybe remove the rock it is on first.

You should definitely take precautions with the snail. Very few snails are beneficial, and chances are if you don't recognize it as one of the species sold in the hobby then it's not one of the beneficial species. If you could get a good clear picture of it there is a chance we might be able to tell you whether it's a good or bad guy, or maybe even what it is if you're really lucky.

If this is a FOWLR tank, then I wouldn't worry about the snail too much. Getting a pic (or going online and trying to ID it yourself) would help solve the ID, though.

DON'T POP THE BUBBLE! It releases lots of spores.. you'll have the stuff growing all over your tank (voice of experience!). Try to remove it without popping it.

Emerald crabs must view bubble algae as humans view broccoli: Some love it and eat it with gusto, and others (like my emerald crabs) won't touch it with a ten foot pole.

Good luck.

Hmmm... now that the tank is full, I could convert the pool to saltwater...
