QT questions????
hey everyone. well i happend to come into a few fish. a percula clown, a sunburst/fathead anthias, a yellow clown goby and a mandin goby. no worries on the mandrin the tank is more than ready for him. here is the issue. i have a 16 gal tank that i have been using for almost two months as a QT tank for another fish. anyway what do you think about using this tank for these fish?
i could put the mandrin straight in. well give him a rense off with tank water. i know they have a nice slim coat so should be parasite, ich free right??? ??? |

While some people insist that mandarins can't get ich, that is patently false. I have seen a number of mandarins coated in ich.
If you want to be sure your fish are clean, you have to quarantine them all. |

Sounds kind of small to me for the amount of fish you are talking. The close quarters will undoubtedly induce further stress during the move. If you have a larger display tank, and plan to acclimate larger fish in the future then you should consider a larger QT tank.... I am planning to use a 55 gallon as they are fairly inexpensive.

i want to get a bigger QT tank, will be needing one. just dont have the room and will not be able to get one for a couple weeks. i work 12 hour shifts grave yard. so need to wait till i have a couple days off in a row. plus dont have the room for it, live in a apt. how about using 5 gal buckets? could put the anthias in the QT tank with the mandrin and use a bucket for the clown goby and percula clown.

If you have cycled biological filters to run in them along with heaters, you could use buckets, although it makes observing the fish for disease extremely difficult.

I use a 55 for fish and a 29 for corals, both I got for practically nothing. They were in someone's garage collecting dust. Both tanks are very scatched up and could never be use for display but it didn't matter to me. I would shop around 55s are a dime a dozen.
That 16g might make a good coral QT. |
