    setting up qt

I have a 30g that currently has goldfish in it that I am going to make into a qt for my saltwater fish. I am moving the water & substrate w/the goldfish. Is there anything else I need to do to the tank before I add my saltwater? Cleaning??? The goldfish are healthy. Won't the salt kill anything that my be in the tank? For future reference can you just add salt to a freshwater tank and it be okay for the saltwaterfish? I know the salt will kill the bacteria but that would be alot easier then empting the tank!!!

Well, salt won't necessarily kill bacteria...our saltwater tanks are teeming with bacteria... we even urge certain ones to grow to help process fish wastes.

If you have ever used copper in your tank to treat your fish, I'd just get a new tank. Otherwise, empty it of water, substrate, etc. and give it a good rinse. You should then be good to go.

Hmmm... now that the tank is full, I could convert the pool to saltwater...
