Question Converting from Fresh to Salt

My son want's to convert his 25g fresh to salt F.O. He has a bio-wheel and a Fluval 204. Will the bacteria survive the transition or should he start with new bio-media?
Thanks

Joe

hmmmm.... very good question, the fact really remains do you want the freshwater bactera? Another good question is that your son is going to find it very hard not to put in 20 fish in that tank or mean big fish like trigger, I would reccomend making it a fowlr, and get maybe a dottyback, and a pair of clowns, then when he gets is own job upgrade the lighting and make it a reef, also what kind of lighting does the tank have right now? He may be able to make a very limited soft coral/shroom reef tank(which I have)

The bactria in freshwater is diffrent than in saltwater. I had two bio wheel filter and a fluval 304 on a fresh water tank befor i converted all i did was rinse them good filled the tank with saltwater added a skimmer and stuck a couple of damsels in to cycle the tank. It worked fine and still works great today. JME

^^^ What Blue said. Just give them a good rinse, add a skimmer and recycle the tank. (I'm assuming you are changing the substrate from gravel to CC or sand?)

NEVER MIND!!!

I bought him a Prism skimmer. Yes it will be FOWLR and an Aragamax Suger Sand substrate. Not intentionally a DSB but thirty pounds got it to about four inches deep.

Thanks
