Im an admitted fish killer

Admitting it is the first step to recovery right. I lost 2 clowns Im going to attribute to being wild and not adjusting. I then bought a regal tang. I looked at it good, the fish store said he had it a while and was eating, said other fish had ich, but not the ones in that tank. LFS store also said they do not treat for ich, just let fish fight through. Anyway got it home and it died in less than 24 hours. Ich spots all over it. Tried to quarantine it and use kick ich but apparently was too late. Also turned heater up to 81 degrees. Never ate in my tank. My water is still just about perfect. SG same as LFS. My yellow tang is doing great and they were getting along pretty good while it lasted. WTH?

Are you saying you put infected fish in your tank?

If you have, the other fish are now probably at risk from Ick parasites too.

Sounds to me like you need to find another LFS and fast! Not treating fish for Ick in store (to me) is downright irresponsible and how do you know these fish are not in the very same water column? One of my LFSs has a couple of dozen displays, but only two actual water columsn (one has copper in it, the other does not).

I would find another store and make sure you see them feed the fish you are going to buy before you purchase it.

I've known many fish stores that try to run a marine system with the policy to not use any system wide treatment for Marine Ich and Marine Velvet. The store usually either goes out of business or changes their policy.

If the tank that the Regal came out was connected into the same system that the sick fish are in, then the Regal has to be considered infected, even if you (or the LFS) couldn't see it. If your LFS doesn't understand this basic principal of the parasite, the LFS is generally not one to listen to and questionable whether his livestock should be bought by you.

I'd watch your Yellow Tang very closely. At any sign of disease get all fish out of your display tank and treat them all in a hospital tank. I would stick with one of the three tried and true treatment methods: hyposalinity, copper, or transfer. Kick Ich and other reef safe 'cures' have never shown themselves to be consistently effective at killing these parasites.

Good luck!

Yes NewAtThis. We've all "bin there, done that, got tee-shirt"

just to repeat Leebca's warning:

USE A HOSPITAL TANK!

If you put anything in your display, the LR or other good organisms in there are likely as not going to die too.
