Hello all...I recently had to break down my tank due to a copper issue and start over again...I added new substrate and cleaned everything...the copper is gone
...heres my question...I kept the same biowheel..my ammonia & nitrites are starting to increase so i'd like to add a bacteria supplement...i have found two...bio-spira from marineland and turbostart...has anyone had success with these products or are they alot of bull like soooooooooooo many products out there to just get ones money...i would appreciate any advice...also my tap water has phosphates in it 2ppm...with my increasing ammonia & nitire levels would it be ok to add phoszorb or just leave it be...thanks crete456..Last edited by crete456; 06-28-2006 at 06:04 PM. |

They are totally unnecessary. The beneficial nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria are ubiquitous. Their doubling rate is astounding. As long as there are nutrients (nitrogen compounds) available, they will multiply.
I cannot think of any product that is a better example of the manufacturers fleecing the customers than this. This is like selling ice to the eskimos.

Marineland's Bio-Spira is the only one of these products I have found to work. I have used it a number of times to almost instantly cycle quarantine tanks.

I've worked with several of those products. The one that is refrigerated came out to be fairly reliable, as well as Bio-Spira.

I am with Ninong on this, but I have not done any type of trials on these products. I say save the money towards a better purchase.

YES! Save the $ for other purchse! I've just cycled a 10 g Q-tank with 1 dead shrimp that costs $1- HK. And now I have a banggai cardinal in it since Tuesday.
