New hitchhikers found!!
I'm new to this hobbie and I've found two new LR hitchhikers and I'm not sure what they are. The first that I have noticed seems to be moving from rock to rock. It is long and worm like....purple with an orange tip. Is this a bristleworm? It only slithers out of a tiny hole of a live rock and I can never see the entire creature.
Another interesting feature of a marshall island LR that I purchased has two shell like features that, at one time of the day will be partially open, then at another time of day will be totally closed. Any ideas of what this may be? sorry I don't have pics of these. Just curious. I've been running a 55 gal since May 18 and I'm amazed at the day to day occurances of this saltwater tank. |

Without good photos about the best anyone could say would be the worm like creature is, well, a worm, there are just so many "types" of brsitleworms it would be hard to say. The shell like creatures are probably a clam, scallop or an oyster. If you want, I have some fairly decent photo examples of such things within my Hitch Hikers Page. hopefully it is of use to you.

Thanks for the reply Chuck. From your web site, I have narrowed it down to a scallop and the other being a bristleworm. It was a very informative site and I also identified a spaghetti worm as well.
Thanks again, Kerry |
