poor little sod, when i went to plop some food in for my lion last night, just as my hand was about an inch away from the water my lion jumped from the water and took it from my fingers, i nearly craped my pants its never done that before i was so supprised.

Yeah this is quite common in lion fish from what I have read, it also happened to me but I quickly found a way to solve this problem with my lion at least.
It depends on a number of things.
Size of lion, compared to food being offered.
And how the food is being offered.
With some lions what food is being offered. (Mine will eat anything I put in the tank)

So with my lion it is 8cm long I offer him food about 1.5cm long and 0.5 cm wide, and as he gets bigger ill increase the size of the food, so it about half the size of his mouth.

As for how its being offered to get my lion to start eating I got a long glass pipette (can use what ever as long as it’s clear) and put a piece of cockle on it of the size above and wiggled it in front of his face and slowly moved it away from him and he gulped it down almost straight away. The key is to make it look alive and that it’s trying to escape from it.
But here is the key to long term success.
When I was doing all this arseing around with the pipettes I made sure I did it in the same place in the tank and I was I the same position every time.
Now when ever I go near that end of the tank he comes right up to me and waits for me to plop in food and gulps down what ever I feed him as long as it’s of appropriate size.

hope this help cheers james
