Post Suggestions for Ideal Clean up Crew.....for my 90 gallon.....

now that I have decided to enjoy Hawaii and not run around trying to collect my clean up crew, I need everyone's thoughts on the ideal Clean Up Crew for my 90 gallon FOWLR (for now) tank.

It has a 5" base of southdown.......

180 lbs of Vanisi LR.....

Everyone online retailer has their own versions....whats yours......

THANKS!

A good variety of snails , bristleworms , and some hermits. I would go easy on the hermits though , a few can go along way . I prefer more snails .Also a good scrub pad for the glass and a couple 5 gallon buckets for the water and some elbow grease

Thanks Tuna - all set on the 5 gallon buckets - When we moved my 35 gallon to another room I bought stock in 5 gallon buckets from the home depot....

For sure no blue legged hermits - made the mistake of buying those

Nucleuscracker,
I'm just curious as to why you don't like the blue-legged hermits. I have a few running around in my tank...Gary

I had 15 blue legged hermits, then they started to kill each other AND my snails. The strange thing is that apparently they weren't doing it for the larger shells because I still have all of the largest shells laying around empty in my tank. I think I just got a group of bullies. Anyway, now there is 1. Guess that would explaine my algae problem :-)

I guess that may explain the snail deaths I had about a month ago, which I originally attributed to copper leaching from the LR. No more blue-legged hermits for me!..Gary

We have a few medium sized blue legs in our tank as well and have also recently lost several snails. We were blaming our blue chin tigger. It turns out he may not me to blame at all. Thanks for the info. Have more snails and red legs coming in tomorrow. Tried an online site.

I have like 30-40 blue leggs in my 90 gallon reef no problems..you need to provide larger shells for them to grow into they normally don't kill snails..They do eat dead snails though..I always provide extra shells scattered throughout the tank and have great success with them..Dan

What about this package from ETropicals - instead of the astrea snails I was thinking about asking to instead give me maybe 30 snails and only 20 hermits......

25 Scarlet Reef Hermits
25 Astrea Turbo Snails
2 Serpent Starfish
2 Brittle Starfish
1 Coral Banded Shrimp
1 Flame Scallop
4 Emerald Crabs
Your Choice of
2 Atlantic Sea Cucumbers
or
3 Peppermint Shrimp
$99.95
Ideal for 40-90 Gallon Tanks

Thanks for the help!

Just got reef package #1 from etropicals. It was the 25 blue legs, 25 scarlet, 25 snails, 2 emerald crabs and we added a bicolor blennie. They were deliverd Tuesday and so far so good. The crabs made quick work of our hair algae. They did a great job. Fish is ok too. I would recommend using them. Prices are great as well. Good luck.

We got 25 Astrea turbo snails. Most of which were fairly large, some were small. The blue legs have not bothered anything so far. Just looked at the Etropicals page and they are having some great deals. Almost wish we waited a week to buy something.

bamm bamm is right blue legs have an undeserved reputation as aggressive if you provide empty shells im sure they would all be much happier to move into a "free" home instead of having to enter mortal combat to survive

Thumbs down

I just despise blue legs. And I generally don't hate any creatures! All of my blue legs ended up being cold blooded killers. There were plenty of extra bigger shells for them and they still killed my snails!

Needless to say...I have a "trust" issue that has been compromised with these guys...

I think after my own experience with blue legs and having heard more negatives against them - I'm going to do w/o them this time.

haven't totally figured out what I am going to order yet - that'll be tonight...

thanks again for all the help!
