A few months ago I posted my wish list and it got the okay back then and here it is again as I am now ready to add fish (my clean up crew cleaned my tank better then i or my wife can clean our own house..[img]/ubb/lol.gif[/img] )

2 bangaii cardinals

1 yellow tang

1 flame angel (to be added last...)

2 long fin banner fish

2 tomato clowns

1 lawnmower blenny

Is this list to big/too small or just right for my 90 gallon FOWLR (for now)...?

Also, which fish would i be best off adding first..

imo a bit many for 90 gallons im sure others keep more though.i would start with the blenny,hes hardy and hell help clean up .by the way how long has the tank been up/how longs the clean-up crew been in?

I wsa thinking about that last night - what about taking off the 2 long nose's.........


the tank has been cycling for about 2 months now - the clean up crew has been working for about a week now. I checked all the parm's and everything is in order (i dont have numbers in front of me)

bughead - good question I think I meant butterfly fish. I wrote the list so friking long ago I have to go back and check my other notes.. [img]/ubb/lol.gif[/img].

Although I am now having an electrical problem - something keeps causing my GFI outlet to trip. I think it may be my mag drive - i just plugged it into a hvy duty ext. cord and ran it into the kitchen gfi outlet - we'll see what happens.

Everything has been running fine until 2 nites ago and I thought i had fixed the problem but I guess not.... [img]/ubb/frown.gif[/img]

I don't know if your list of fish would over crowd a 90 gal system. You know the rule of thumb (1"fish/5gal water), but there are other variables. According to the rule, my tank is tremendously overcrowded. (100 gal). I don't even want to think about it. But it is a very peaceful tank, with the 3 big fish-PB tang, hippo tang, foxface- being great pals, swimming and playing together. The lawnmower blenny and bullet goby are quiet. The maroon clown, altho fiesty, stays in her section of the tank and acts like, well, a clown fish. If that was it, you'd think, where's the problem? It's the five 8"long convict blennies that live in a huge sandy apartment complex in the left-hand third of the tank. But these guys are very docile, acting very much like eels. So, like I said the tank is very peaceful. All the fish are bright and healthy. The water stays crystal clear with near perfect params (still working on lowering nitrates after removing bioballs). And the thought of removing any of the fish breaks my heart. So I stay on top of tank maintenance to keep their home clean.

So, altho your list looks a bit hefty, the fish you have chosen sounds compatable. (I don't know what a banner fish is, unless it's a heniochus butterfly). I'd put the cardinals in early, the lawnmower blenny and the clowns. I'm not sure about the clowns, maybe they should go in after the tang and butterflies (if that's what you mean). I agree with flame angel last.

so you want to add three at once or those are the first three i would add one fish at a time starting with one..except when it comes to pairs which i would add at the same time so i think a blenny this weekend and if all is well say in a couple weeks find a pair of cardinals put something down on them and pick them up the next week just what i would do (in a perfect world)the only time i ever added three fish at the same time (2nd 3rd and 4th fish in a newly cycled tank of come to think of it a couple-few months)i had a disastrous out break of ick 3 of 4 died i dont know if this was coincidence or not but i add a fish at a time since

well we ended up not getting any fish - couldnt find anything at the LFS and www.tropicorium.com is too far to drive.

It was the bannerfish that I had meant in my original list they are commonly called "long fin banner fish".

I think the first purchase will be the blenny. then 2 or 3 weeks later either the cardinals or the bannerfish (what ya think). then the yellow tang. then the tomato clown then lastly, months from now... the flame angel.

Not sure wtf i was thinking getting 3 fish of different species at the same time and adding them at the same time... must be all the rain is starting to affect my brain..

imo i might reverse that and add the tang last it really all depends though my freind had a flame and it was mellow and ive seen some territorial tangs what do the rest of you think?

well I just added the first wave of fish - 3 bangaii cardinals. 2 females and one male - captive bred.

All seem to be doing fine. I have the lights off so they can adjust (at least I had heard thats a good idea..)

Next purchase in 3 weeks or so will be a lawnmower blenny.


Its all coming to together..

I would definitely put the Flame Angel last Nucleus. I have one in my 25 gallon and whoa.....it's really active, but never nips at my leathers or small polyps.

Keep an eye on the cardinals. Twice I'd added 3 (tank raised) Benggais to the tank and both times I didn't get the odd man out removed fast enough and ended up with a dead cardinal. They may be fine for awhile, but as soon as two pair up, the other little gal isn't going to become part of a "manage a' tois". Cardinals have mated pairs, not harems.

But with the size of your tank, there probably won't be any problem at all.

Right now I am just feeding them baby shrimp - frozen.......

Mine would eat anything I threw in the tank, from frozen, to flakes to pellets. I try to feed twice a day. They are open water feeders, but seem fairly slow to go after the food. Also they seemed to eat better in the evening after the white lights go off and only the actinics are on, especially when I first got them. Now I have only a pajama cardinal and he doesn't care what time it is when vittles come down. But he is slower to eat than the maroon clown and the royal gramma.
