Think befor you speak or dont speak at all!!!
i am thinking of setting up a fo tank or maybe even a species specific tank. what would be the minimum requirements for a cow fish tank, porcupine puffer tank, or a lion fish tank. what would be an appropriate tank for any of these that they will not out grow. thank for any ideas.

Minimum tank sizes according to Scott Michael's Marine Fishes:
Longhorn Cowfish - 180g
Thornback Cowfish - 55g
Spiny Puffer (Diodon holocanthus) - 75g
Volitans Lionfish - 55g

I would have to agree with a least a 75 min for the puffer and lion. They both get latter large in time and will need the room.
I'm going to have to disagree with the recommendation on the lion.
I've seen Volitans that were at least a foot across their pectorals. 55 doesn't leave much room for that. I like the 180 idea better. JMHO

I drive entirely too fast
i have decided to go with a dwarf lion and a hoovercraft fish. they need a lot less space and i think the biggest tank i can squeze into my room is about 90-110. thanks for all the help so far
tlc,
Good thinking! I am glad to see one who is trying to find out the right info' befor buying somthing that does not mix.
My rule of thumb would be get the biggest tank that you can afford! Then pick your fish with care. JME
I think the 110 would work for the two fish you just mentioned!
GOOD LUCK,
VTEC
What's a hovercraft fish? I never heard of that one.
As a nation, you're faced with the choice of taking over the world or offering good eats at reasonable prices.
a hoovercraft fish is similiar to a long horn cowfish. it stays much smaller therefore needing much less tank. its also known as a helmut or a tetrosomusgibbosus www.petwhse.com has a picture of one on there web site....
