oh lee 35 years (touch wood),

I have a dream to have a display tank free of parasites and diseases.
and I ll go for it step by step.
u know when I started this hoppy I used to but at least 8 new fishes one time in the display tank (why not I have 180 gallon tank) now I knew it was abig mistack . ok lee I have some questions,
1- dose cleaner shrimps or anemones needs to go such QT process?
2- u mentioned that not to use tap water ,there are some products in the market to extract any chlorine or heavy metals from the tap water and make it safe for the fish ,do u think it is ok
3- what do u mean RO/DI ?
4- AFTER mixing the sult with water how much time needed to be ready for adding to the QT .?

I moved your post into this Forum and into a new thread to keep the threads more 'topic' focused.

My display tanks have been disease-free for over 35 years. It isn't luck. It's a quarantine process and patience. It works.

1a. Shrimp can bring with them parasitic crustaceans. I have tried to find out (but without success) if these parasites attack fish, also. Anyway, I've seen these shrimp with parasites and I have quarantined them until they were parasite free. I'd recommend doing a quarantine process for everything.

1b. Anemones can carry a few of their own diseases and parasites. They are for sure best to quarantine. I understand that they are also given a special freshwater dip to help cleanse them before putting them into their quarantine tank. Their quarantine period can be shortened to 3 weeks.

2. You should read this article regarding tap water: Chemistry and the Aquarium

What you'll learn mostly from the above that we don't know everything that can be in your tap water. Those tap water treatments may remove or neutralize chlorine, but what about the other potentially dangerous contents?

3. RO = Reverse Osmosis; DI = deionized water. This reference may explain in greater details: WATER - Source and NSW

4. When starting up a quarantine tank, it is the only time you can actually use display tank water. But if you think that water is not good, then using freshly made up salt water is okay. After the quarantine tank (QT) is begun, always use fresh salt water for changes. Depending on the salt -- it is usually ready in 18 hours or less. Follow any instructions or recommendations that may be printed on the salt container.

No problem. I don't mind any duplication.

I'm not very good at photography. I have a digital camera and I came close to having Poseidon in the Photo Lab Forum here on Reefland give me some pointers, but I never took those photos.

My aquariums are not 'furniture' which is very common for most home hobbyists. I only keep the fish happy and not my visitors! By this I mean my aquariums aren't attractive to people -- only to the fishes (I hope). I owe some people some photos of them, though, so someday. . .
