Post Help Ammonia

I have .50 ammonia in my aquarium and im planning on getting my first fish tommorow. Can I? I did a 45% water change yesterday and it was .25 and now its .50. Please help. Thx

You do not have our support in adding a fish at this time.

After the tank shows zero ammonia, zero nitrites, and is stable/mature, then you want to add fish. See: The Mature Aquarium

When the tank is young or when the nitrogen cycle is still adjusting, add tough inhabitants, like snails. Then follow the adding suggestions in the above referenced post.

my tank has been up for around 5 months now, and it was 0 a week ago and now its .50. A clam did die in it so i bet thats what put it up.
