LionFish starvation. (How Long?)
How long LionFish can handle its starvation?
Depend on my experience, LionFish don't want eat frozen worm/frozen blood worm. I always feed LionFish a small fish that fit its mouth. I dont know the name. Its from freshwater. Picture will post soon. The problem is, that small fish is not ready everyday. Sometimes every 3 or 4 day. |

Dr. Frank Marini has written a nice article on lionfish. He covers nutrition -- it's way down in the article.
Lionfish can go quite a while without eating but that's not the best way to go about feeding them. Another point is that you should never feed them freshwater fish. It can cause fatty deposits in their liver. You should try feeding it shrimp (with shell on) or just about any white saltwater fish from the supermarket. Try putting a small shrimp on the end of a stick and waving it in front of the lionfish. If he hasn't eaten for a few days, he might go for it. It's always best to try to get them off of live food and it can be done if you keep trying. What species of lionfish do you have and how big is it?

Sorry, i forget to post the size.
They are same size. 3 inch, including the tail. Maybe the body around 2 or 2.5 inch. How do you call the fish's tail in english? ![]() |

Some of us call it the caudal fin but a lot of people just call it the fish's tail.
![]() P.S. -- I have no experience with lionfish. Did you check out that article I linked for you? Dr. Marini has photographs of several different species of lionfish in that article. Also, you could check out the photographs of lionfish on Robert Fenner's website: Wetwebmedia, Aquarium, Pond, Marine and Freshwater Fish, reef tanks, and Aquatics Information

Check with your LFS to see if they have silversides or can get them. Lionfish love them. I had 2 lionfish that would take a silverside right out of my hands. I usually fed them 2 - 3 times a week.

I lost my poor lionfish to starvation, I tried everything to get that fish to eat, Including: Live fish, Stick feeding, Netting him and putting live food inside the net. I mean everything and that my little tank buddy wouldn't eat. I finally found him one day gone to fish heaven
What else do you have in the tank with your lion fish? I know I have read that sometimes that can make a difference. |

Why does my lionfis breathing at the top surface water level? With Up Side Down position? Is it dying? Then in the view minutes, its hanging at the rock. After a view minutes, its begin position up side down...
