What is this? (pic)

Hi!

Bought this beauty yesterday but the seller said a name that when looked up on the net dosent even come close... So what´s this guys name? It shifts sand as it rises from the bottom. Keeps my sand white and nice!

Thanks!
Dave

That is a goby... Amblygobius bynoensis, I believe, although I think yours is a juvenile because there are no spots towards the caudal end. Common name: Byno Goby- I've never heard of it until now.
Found it at Fishbase.org, here's the link: View Pictures - hope the link works.
If you Google the scientific name and do an image search, you get more pictures.
Here's where it lives: Google Image Result for http://www.lifemapper.org/robotfood/Fish/Amblygobius%20bynoensis.GIF

BTW, that's a great picture!

Definately a Goby, but I think it may be:

Amblygobius phalaena

Common name of Dragon Goby.... But that is the problem with common names. There are a lot of them.

I went with the Byno Goby because the vertical stripes trail off caudally, whereas the Dragon Goby's go all the way back...

The Byno Goby also has the blue stripe and yellow tint right under the eye, as well as the blue stripes above and below the black lateral line.

Boy it sure is one of those!

To me it looks like the vertical stripes are coming in, but the tail adorenments are there. Could it be a hybrid?

I wonder what we'd call a hybrid between those two... something humorous, for sure! Anyone else here have an opinion? Ninong?
