Brown algae

I have had my tank (38 gal) set up for 3 months now to fully cycle it for a pony tank, I still have a issue with brown algae on my substrate, rocks and I added some gorgianas a few days ago and now it is even starting to grow on them
I have a good handle on the basics, I use RO/DI water, I am not feeding other than a couple mysis once a week for the nassiouris snails and a small piece of clam every 3 days for the CC star, provide good skimming (Ramora), light are on 8 hours per day, hang on fuge and a 196 watt pc fixture with 2 month old bulbs. nitrites are 0 , nitrates are 5. It has 12 nassarious snails, 5 black turbos, 2 mexican turbos, 1 sand shifter star and a chocolate chip star for live stock, about 15-20 lbs LR a sea fan and 3 gorgianas.
I plan on adding the ponies within a week or so so I would really like to loose the ugly brown distraction from the rest of the tank.

Re: Brown algae

The brown algae will go away it's all part of starting a new tank.
It's ok to drink like a fish provided you drink what the fish drinks
