What fish can i put happily together in my tank?
Im getting a 30-gallon hexagon tank tomorrow and would like to make it salt water. but im just not sure what fish i can put in there together that will get along??
I have heard that Chromis and Damsels are easy and cheap. they are 7.99 each at my local fish store. So can i get a bunch of them? or is there a better type?? thanks a lot guys!! |

Steve please don't add anything until you research setting up and cycling a tank. This is a very bad idea and you will waste your money. Please be patient and research this hobby before you jump right into it.

Re: What fish can i put happily together in my tank?
The Damselfishes are feisty fishes that quite often don't get along well together. There are exceptions, however their 'schools' or groupings should in fairly large numbers (like no less than 5 for the Chromis).
On the other hand, depending upon the type of system you are setting up will dictate the quantity of fish it will support. Taking Chromis as an example, the 'average' 30 gallon system should not be stocked with more than 3 small Chromis, which means too few for a proper 'school.' Stocking a single Damselfish and another small fish that occupies another part of the aquarium would be smart. For instance, a Damsel and a bottom dwelling small Goby. There are many combinations and, as previously suggested, checking out a couple of the on-line compatibility charts is a good start, then being sure the aquarium will not get overstocked when the fish grow. Good luck!
