Goby pair are fighting!

I have a pair of Yasha gobies that got along very well when I first got them. They started fighting after about 2 weeks in QT so I put them in separate QT's for the remainder of their QT time.

I put the smaller one in the display first and then a few days later put the other one in. They left each other alone for the first few days but now the larger one is going after the smaller one so much that the smaller one has been regulated to the corner of the tank and I can see it eating much less now.

What are some possible solutions? Do I remove one of them and back to the QT so the smaller one can regain his strength and confidence? If so, do I keep the smaller one in the display or the larger, more aggressive one?

Thank you.

Re: Goby pair are fighting!

Additional info:

Tank is 45 cube (24x18x24), ~45 LBS live rock

Yasha's were purchased from Divers Den in Live Aquaria. They said the pair of Yasha's were collected together along with their symbiotic shrimp and held by then for 2 weeks in a 6 gallon tank before they were released for sale.

Re: Goby pair are fighting!

i would remove the larger one more aggressive one back in to QT for about 4 weeks so the smaller one can stake its clame of territory and gain confidence so hopefully when the bigger one gos back in it will be on the other one rules.

Re: Goby pair are fighting!

wozza has a good suggestion.

Keep in mind that fish that 'group' or may travel with their own kind just sometimes take a dislike to one another. In other words, there is no accounting for fish personality. Even though the two should get along (though not a mated pair) two always won't.
