Nori For Yellow Tang?
Hiya Guys.
I plan on getting a yellow tang this week. I will be feeding it Seaweed Selects and bloodworms. How long do the seaweed selects last you guys? Do you use the Red Algae,Brown Algae or Green Algae? I also heard about Nori. I was talking to someone, and they said it could be found in any food store. Where do you get it? I have a Stop&Shop around the corner. Could I get it from there? Thanks. Nori is usually available at health food stores and oriental markets, but I have never found it at an ordinary grocery store FWIW.

The Seaweed Selects should last a long time. I want to warn you to go easy on it. For one fish, no more than an inch square a day. You can alternate the green red and brown.
I have 3 big tangs ranging from 5" to 7". Every morning I was taking 2 six by two inch pieces of nori or SS, folding it and soaking it with Selcon and attaching it to a rock. This went on fine for a month or so, then my powder blue bloated up and looked like he'd swallowed a ping-pong ball. He bobbed along while swimming and had a terrible time keeping his balance. The advice I got from Bob Fenner and one of the guys on this board was to quit feeding so much dried seaweed, as it swells in the gut and some fish have a hard time digesting it. I quit all dried seaweed and Tangy was totally back to normal after 3 days. I started back slowly, with an inch square two or three times a week. Now they get a 2 inch square soaked with Selcon every morning and the fish are doing good. At the Asian market, see if you can get wakame. It's fresh green seaweed packaged in salt. Rinse it well and drop it in the tank. My guys make short work of wakame and Red Tang Heaven.

Both the Ralphs and Safeway (Vons) grocery stores have Nori on the west coast.
Your profile doesn't say where you are, so its hard to say if your area may have it. As Bug head suggests, it really should be soaked first before feeding. I use it as a treat for all my fish (the damsels and moon wrasse really love it) about twice a month, but not as a primary food source.

Icemark's right. I forgot to mention that, besides the homemade mixture, my fish get a variety of Ocean Nutrition frozen food for their main course. Formula 2 is exellent and all my fish love it-even the convict blennies- but I've heard that some tangs don't care for it at all.
Also on the west USA, Smith's carries wakame. They did carry nori too, but I haven't seen it there for a while, but I can still get it at Von's.
