how long will it take for sponge filter to become active?

how long will it take for sponge filter to become active?

i want to set up a QT for my fish as they have white spot, no doubt due to the temp fluctuations im having as it nearly summer here, and causeing them stres.

but my question is if i put a spong filter in my display tank how long untill its active?

Usually 3 to 8 weeks. Depends on circulation through the filter and how much wastes (ammonia and nitrites) pass through the sponge.
