why is my clown swimming against the flow

Today I took out a bunch of LR to get to my sick tang and move her to a QT. When I put all the stuff back in my clowns want to hang out in front of the water pump. It is up high and they stay a couple inches away from it and like to swim toward it. They dont move but their bodies are working to get to the water flow. Why is this?

More times than not it is a sign that they don't like the water quality so they hang out where the water has the best quality. It is sometimes a matter of oxygen content or other issues.

On other occasions some fish like to stay in the stream because it gives them a bit of a massage. Still, the most likely is what is written above.

One possible reason is gill flukes. If your fish havent been scratching though, its likely a water quality issue.

One of my clown fish is doing this also. If he has gill flukes or some other parasites, what can you do?
Also, the white band closest to his tail has faded to a pinkish white. His tail fin is a little tattered. Sometimes he swims in jerky motions as if jumping through the water.

Sounds like gill flukes or other parasite. What are your water parameters? If your water quality is reading ok, then I would try quarantine or fresh water dipping.

Well sad to say, I lost my clown. I guessed I moved him to a QT just a little too late. He only lasted a day in there. I found him lifeless on the bottom. I just wish I caught it early and knew whta was going on. My water checked out and my yellow tang is doing fine.
