Re: please help identify this wrasse

Well, there's no matching picture on Fishbase.org, but I didn't think there would be. It looks like you've got a juvenile of some species, and the problem w/ wrasses is that the juveniles often look nothing like the adults. I'll take a stab at the genus as Coris. Or maybe Halichoeres. Anyone else want to take a shot?

Re: please help identify this wrasse

I sure wish it was a better picture to go on with but I digress.

It reminds me in the body shape and the markings of the tail fin of the wrasse from genus Anampses, particularly A.melanurus lineatus Randall, 1972. It hails from Red Sea and grows to about 12cm according to my book on wrasses by Rudie H. Kuiter. However, it's just a guess on my part.
Anampses lineatus - Species Summary

Other than that I have no idea.

Re: please help identify this wrasse

Hi, i have just joined this forum and this is my first post. The wrasse looks to me like a Chiseltooth (Pseudodax Moluccanus), however i cant be sure. The markings of the tail say yes, but the Chiseltooths ive seen have some orange/red in the body colour. Sorry i cant help more but if you do get a positive id i would be interested to hear. Nice fish!

Where did this guy come from? Was hit a local catch? I notice you're from Manila... that could narrow it down considerably
