Re: Hippo tang and ICH
Thanks again Lee. I wouldd love your advice here
I have a 90 gallon tank with an overflow built in sitting there doing nothing at the moment. I want to get that tank going with new live rock and live sand and then put some new and my existing fish in that system. What is the best way to go about that? Would it be to get the new tank loaded with the rock and sand and water and let it sit for 8 weeks therefore getting rid of any potential ich Then purchase new fish, quarantine them (how long??) before adding them to the new tank How would i best get the current fish over to the new tank? Quarantine with copper to get rid of potential existing ich and then put them in the new tank? Or would it just be best not to use the existing fish at all? Thanks again Dave |

Re: A New Start
I moved your post into a new thread into a different Forum.
Actually, you have a very good plan. I think you've got the right ideas! Startup the new aquarium much in the way as suggested in this post: Setting Up a FOWLR Aquarium After the rock and sand, introduce the clean-up crew. Start feeding said crew and give the chance for the aquarium to go through the Secret Cycle (The Secret Cycle). Regardless of the source of fish (old tank with Marine Ich, new fish, traded fish, etc., etc.) quarantine them before putting into the new aquarium. Doing the job diligently and perfectly will prevent Marine Ich (and many other nasties) from getting into the new system. Quarantine procedure I use: A Fish Quarantine Process. It's at least a 6-week quarantine time, but an upside is that this is time while the new tank is maturing. Additional good reading about the quarantine process: An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure: A Quarantine Tank for Everything by Steven Pro - Reefkeeping.com
