Maroon Clownfish

I picked up a maroon clown today for 50$, he is about 4-5" and has yellow barring. Is this rare, or are most maroons this way? there was also a white barred that was a little smaller but i thought the yellow was a better buy and rarer. Was this a good price for this fish? I also picked up 3 XL Turbo snails, to put in my 75 with the maroon clown, a female blue throat trig, foxface, klein bfly, regal tang and diamond goby. is it likely that my trigger will eat the snails. The snails are really big, and the blue throat is about 6". Also, will i be able to add more fish now, or once the maroon clown gets settled in any new fish will be beaten up?

Re: Maroon Clownfish

Your post contains a multitude of subjects. I'll briefly respond. If you want more info, just ask.

1) The 4" Maroon Anemonefish is an adult and is old (could be 'young old' or near the end of its life). The golden bands is one variation of the Maroon. They are being tank bred and raised in both variations. They are not rare.

2) $50? Check the Internet. Most are in that price area when they are that large.

3) The Blue Throat is one of the most peaceful of Triggers. If well fed it may leave the snails alone. But at any day, it may decide it wants some escargot.

4) Some of the fishes in the tank are space stressed, in addition to the marine system likely being overstocked. The trigger belongs in a 90 (min). Both the Foxface and Tang belong in an aquarium about 6+ feet long.

5) Once established, the Maroon Anemonefish will be pretty pushy and hard on new arrivals. But, I don't think you want to add more fish to what is likely an overstocked aquarium?

She is about 4-5". Females can reach a maximum adult size of 5-6", males do not exceed 3".

This is a color morph endemic to Sumatra.

As Lee has already point out, the price is sort of average for a fish of that size. However, I would like to throw in here that it is a shame that this species is still collected from the wild when it is readily available captive-bred. And, as Lee has already mentioned, there is no way of knowing the age of the fish you purchased. We don't know how long she lived as a male before converting to female. She is obviously a mature female at this point but how long was she a male before that? Could have been seven or eight months or seven or eight years.

I think you have quite a lot of fish already. In particular, I think you're pushing it putting a foxface rabbitfish and a regal tang in a 75-gal tank. That's on the small side for those fish.
