hi, my yellow head jawfish which is pretty new to the tank (4 days) jumped out of the tank. I heared the sound and checked it out..somehow managed to get him back into the tank.. he was breathing fine but i think has injured his head when he hit the floor.. What could be the possible reasons for him jumpint out ? is there anything I need to know about this fish to ensure that he will not jump again ?

Some fishes are 'jumpers.' What is the cause can be (most likely) they like to dash vertically sometimes and the tanks we keep our fish in are just too shallow for these 'dashes.'

Obvious other reasons include: another fish was chasing it or harassing it and it swam upwards too far; water quality was so bad it did its best to find another location; etc.

These Jawfish are known jumpers. Best to cover every single inch of the top of the aquarium. The cover doesn't have to be solid, it can be a screen or some other cover to keep the fish inside, and yet let air exchange.

Thanks Lee...he looks fine now... but still unsettled...moving around here n there.. but he had food this morning which was encouraging..i have covered the top of the aquarium..
