Re: Picture of My New Tang!
Ah yes my friend, more than a beauty. We absolutely love ours. The Z. scopas has for a long time been my favorite, but I am pretty attached to our Powder Blue.

Good looking fish! Blue has always been my favorite color in fishes.

Re: Picture of My New Tang!
I love these fish this will be next and probably last fish to add to my tank. I have been looking for one for awhile, I have seen 6 or 7 but none that I think are just the right size or look healthy enough for me. Oh well maybe someday lol.

Very very pretty! How do you know it's a male?

I don't know if its a male...I used he as a non-gender specific adjuctive.

I love Powder Blues. Just wish they were easier to take care of.

Re: Picture of My New Tang!
I have had mine for 2 weeks now, he's eating like a hog, not a sign of ich and he's happy as can be! Overall he's no harder to care for than my clowns! I cannot get a chromis to live, though! GO FIGURE!

Re: Picture of My New Tang!
How do keep a fish like that healthy? They're soooo delicate; getting them to survive the quarantine period alone is a challenge. You just can't lower the salinity to any level for any real length of time w/o worrying about effecting these guys.

I think the key is to get a healthy specimen to begin with.

Re: Picture of My New Tang!
We have had ours for 4 months now (got it on 6-26-07) and it is still doing great! Never a sign of disease, never a sign of being timid, notta.
But your right, they are more delicate than most other tangs. |

Re: Picture of My New Tang!
Mine is in my tank now, almost 4 weeks....he eats flake, he's doing great! Not a fish that is hard to care for. I do keep my water parameters constant and I feed more than most do. I did NOT QT him...I have a large UV and I put him directly in the reef.

Re: Picture of My New Tang!
Anyone who owns one and is successful in taking care of one is a FAR better Saltwater Hobbiest than me. I've researched and studied and trialed/errored; I'd rather take my chances with a Zanclus before I attempt a Powder Blue...again.

Re: Picture of My New Tang!
I totally agree.
I only buy my fish from a LFS (fintastic fish in plainville, ma) due to his stock ALWAYS looking healthy and never experiencing a problem. I just aclimate for one hour and add to tank and have never experienced an issue with new fish. ALso, it is very important to watch the fish for 15 minutes before purchasing to see how it acts.... I had a powdered brown once and didn't have an issue with it. I had to get rid of it due to overstocking when I first got into fish keeping. I'll assume the brown is pretty much the same as blue with regards to difficulty keeping it. |

Re: Picture of My New Tang!
I guess I am lucky ( and I am knocking on wood ) I have had a powder blue for about 2 years and he has not been hard to take care of at all. As a matter of the fact, right after I put him in, I discovered he had ick. I let the main go fishless 6 weeks and qt all the other fish and treated with copper. From What I have read that is usually a disaster in its self but He survived and my tank has been ick free ever since. Go figure. It must be luck
