Re: Hi all...
WELCOME TO REEFLAND!
You'll find a lot of good posts and articles to read here on Reefland. If you go to this post, it lists subjects and gives links to other posts: Table/Contents - Link List I think you'll find in this link: Fish Stocking Limit - for FO and FOWLR an explanation on why the aquarium you have is much too short/small for that Tang.

Re: Hi all...
It is a good looking fish, but definitely overgrown for this tank.

Re: Hi all...
Coral choices are in the eye of the beholder. But with that lighting, you won't be limited on what you can keep in regards to light requirements.

Re: Hi all...
id like to go with something VERY colorful... do you have any idea how long i should get my tank used to the new lighting before adding corals?
also, i was told to get my tank used to the new lighting one at a time. was was told to start with the bulb being like 17" away then dropping it down to 8-12" away |

Re: Hi all...
There is no benefit to acclimating your tank to the new lights since you don't have anything in the tank that requires light. You can set them up and turn them on when your ready.

Re: Hi all...
Algae isn't going to grow due to increased lighting. It will only grow due to available nutrients. Therefore if you do get some algae when you switch lighting, don't look at the lights as the problem, look at the water quality.

Re: Hi all...
when i changed from T8s to 150w MH i had loads of brown algae but as reefland says it was not the lights fault it was the fact i had high PO4.

I thought a change in light can cause algae? Check this out. I have a skylight in my office and light was shining on the tank a bit - algae then grew quite a bit... when i covered the skylight the algae went away. |

Re: Hi all...
It can but only if there are enough available nutrients for the algae to utilize, with out PO4 and NO3 they won’t grow, simple.
