New Life Can't find info to ID.

Well I'm 2.5 months into my 75 gallon FOWLR. I have a couple new life forms on my live rock. I tried to get pictures but no luck. The first critter is about the size of a pencil erasure and is clear more than white. Round like a daisy with about 20 tentacles. It will close up quickly if somthing comes by. It is on the same spot on the lR all the time.

The second critter is also clear to white. Looks like maybe a small jelly? Its cottony and whispy and moves in the current? about the size of a dime I guess. Also on the LR.

Re: New Life Can't find info to ID.

These invertebrates are probably best identified by people who are more familiar with invertebrates. Here in the fish forum we may not be as helpful to you in this regard. Try posting in the reef forum, especially when you get some photos.

You can Goggle on the Internet for the word Aiptasia and take a look at some photos of that organism to see how it compares to what it is you are seeing. For a reef tank, Aiptasia is a bane. But for me, I try to keep growing them in my refugium since they make a great food for many of my polyp-eating fishes.

There are other more or less common polyped creatures too, some negative, some neutral that will usually be cleaned up after fish are introduced. To identify them get names from the reef forum and seek out their photos on the Internet.

Good luck!
