mixed reef to FOWLR

Hi I have a 265g mixed reef. My tank has been running about 6 months now. I upgraded from a FO 55g to this tank so I could get the larger (&more fish) I wanted. However at the same time I discovered a local reef club and was generously given 6-10 sps frags. I also have some gorgonias, LPS, and a large lobo brain. Now I'm feeling right back where I was with the 55g - I can't have the fish I really want. I've gotten off track and am thinking of going FOWLR w/ hopefully a few LPS pieces. I"m not sure how this will work. I want to have 2 lrg angels which I will add together probably as juveniles. as well as a few more tangs. Any comments/advice would be appreciated.
I currently have:
1 larg Naso
1 yellow tang
1 blue regal tang
1 bluethroat trigger
1 maroon clown hosting in a BTA
LN hawkfish
3 damsels I can't catch
2 blue/green chromis
4 red firefish
4 cleaner shrimp
blue linkia and other assorted inverts

Re: mixed reef to FOWLR

If you are referring to large adult Angelfishes then there is a swimming space consideration.

Although the biological support the 265g aquarium can muster is sufficient for the large Angels, the swimming space isn't. Large Angels should be in 500 gallon sized aquariums when they are between 5 and 9 inches. After that, larger aquariums. Keep in mind they can reach up to 18" in the wild and larger in captivity. The size recommendation isn't for bio-load reasons, it's for swimming space. Juvenile large Angels can be kept in aquariums that are 40 and above, appropriate for their size. I love the large Angels too, but it just doesn't work with most of them.

Your other choices of fishes in the tank now are very good. They are chosen for the reef inverts, which keeps your options limited.

It is frustrating about keeping fish and the reef system. I chose to stick with FO systems for the last 40 years even when reefs became available. I just love those fish!
