I have a 35 gallon hexagon tank that I am using as a freshwater tank right now, I have heard that hexagon tanks are not the best for saltwater, is it going to be worth my time to change it over? If so what cost is going to be involved?

As far as costs go, your question is a little like, "How much does a car cost?" There is a whole range of systems and equipment to choose from. A basic system may cost less than $600 in some additional equipment (you don't mention the equipment you already have). A more elaborate system to produce a better quality of water may easily cost $1000. These figures can decrease the more of a do-it-yourself person you are, and if you seek out used equipment. These figures assume you want about 70 pounds of live rock and a suitable substrate. If the system you have in mind requires special lighting, those numbers can increase. Without live rock, a FO marine system with that tank can cost as little as $300. in extras. For an idea what it requires, you should read through this post: Setting Up a FOWLR Aquarium and obtain at least one of the starter books to get an idea of some of your options.

What marine fish mostly benefit from is swimming space. Fish don't swim vertically, they swim horizontally. So any 'tall' tank is not to their benefit. However, this particular hex you have would be an okay display tank for a pair of Anemonefishes (except the very large ones), if that is what you like.

The answer to that first question (and second) depends upon the kind of marine system you want. When you get better focused on that, we can perhaps offer a better insight into the answers.

Once you have in mind the kind of system you want, visit your LFS and ask for a quote. Quotations are usually free.

Sorry for the inadequate post, I have an emperor 280 bio wheel setup and I am attaching a picture of a tank just like mine but mine is black "no added value ", I mostly like some of the mor colorful fish as well as the lionfish. I am very illiterate to SW setups and am not really looking for an elaberate tank but want to make sure its sufficient enough for the fish.

If fish is your goal, then you'll probably want to rethink using this display. Although the costs will be on the lower end of what I've posted, the amount of fish in this tank will need to be very low. One dwarf Lionfish may be too big for this tank, unless you have no less than 50 pounds of LR, then it should work out well.

But, will you be satisfied with having just the one fish? If so, then you make this a very nice looking marine tank.

i have the same tank for about 2 months now, i gotta 150 mh coralife pendant(that puts off mass heat) and about 20 pounds lr... im goin to order more live rock ( know n e good dealers?) and a skimmer... I plan on having a clown, flame angel and maybe like a goby or blenny?? is this overstocking?? will the fish not swim on the top half of the tank or sumthin??

Most coral fishes have their own swimming area and 'zone.' Most of them are near coral and rocks where they can make a mad dash away from a predator. In the home aquarium, which compared to the sea, is very shallow, the fish will stay near the bottom. Exceptions include some schooling fishes and fishes that do remain in the open waters.

It depends. Although you mentioned the Flame Angel, you didn't indicate the kind of Anemonefish you want Not all Anemonefishes remain small. The female Maroon, for instance, exceeds 6 inches in length! This fish would be unsuitable for that aquarium.

If they are two small fish (AND they will remain small fish and not grow to over 3 inches in the years to come) and the Blenny doesn't get any larger than about 3 inches in length, the aquarium should be maxed out.

ya i was thinkin maybe some perc's.. not sure, i appreciate the help though.. ay i also have these little green tree lookin things growing on the side of my tank.. the all meet at one base on the tank and flair out in a bunch of 'branches'.. any ideas what it could be?
