Coral beauty or Flame angel in 30 gallon??
Hey there I have 2 small clowns and a small neon damsel in my tank. I wanted to get some more fish.
I am partial to the coral beauty and flame angel. Do you think that either of these fish would do well in a 30 gallon tank? I don't want the fish to fight or kill each other but I really like how these two look. Any other suggestions?? |

Re: Coral beauty or Flame angel in 30 gallon??
My rule of thumb has always been one "average" sized fish per 10 gallons. I know that this is NOT a fool proof rule, and is subject to all kinds of ridicule, but it works for me. Given that "rule", I would not add any more fish to your tank....

Your aquarium is already overstocked. More could lead to disaster. You need to leave some room for growth.
This is good info: Fish Stocking Limit - for FO and FOWLR

Re: Coral beauty or Flame angel in 30 gallon??
I appreciate the desire for more. But every system has its limit.
The Anemonefish you have need room to grow and even if they are of the species that are one of the smallest, the 30 would be just for them IF they weren't a mated pair. A small species mated pair would do better in the 40 with no other fish. What species of Anemonefish (scientific name) do you now own? If you read that post you'll see the 'bigger' picture has to take into account not only just the aquarium/marine system size, but all the ancillary equipment it has, and the type of system you have established.

Quote:
A better choice might be an Orchid Dottyback (Pseudochromis fridmani) or maybe a Royal Gramma (Gramma loreto), but not both. When you say you have "two small clowns," does that just mean that they are both juveniles right now? What species are they? If they're Percula clowns or Ocellaris clowns, then a 30-gal tank would be adequate provided you don't put more than maybe one or two other fish, at the most, with them. If we're talking about any of the larger clownfish, then a 40-gal tank is considered the minimum size. And, as Lee has already said, it would be better to keep just the pair of clownfish in a 30-gal tank. If you intend getting an anemone at some point, a 30-gal tank is marginal and the only species that might work would be Entacmaea quadricolor, although most folks consider a 40-gal the minimum size for this anemone.
