For food they eat live brine, mysids, copepods. you can try to feed it frozen, but it might be too shy. Being they will hunt out the pod's you may find yourself reseeding often just to keep it fed.
They love having places to burrow in, so lots of crevises and such close to the substrate will be great

Re: How to raise a Dragonet

Keeping fishes that are specialized eaters of pods is not a problem if you'll take the time to train them on the foods to eat. That is one of the reasons we quarantine all marine fishes. Not just to be sure they are healthy, but to train them to eat prepared foods.

Rather than go into the training methods here, I will put here some links of things for you to read. Be sure to quarantine the fish and train the fish while it is in quarantine, before you release it into your display.

Please do some reading:
Mandarin Diner by Marc Levenson - Reefkeeping.com
and
Pod Eaters

Ultimately, what you'll find that if your fish isn't trained to eat prepared foods, it will slowly die in the home aquarium. Live Rock in the home aquarium does not provide the diversity of food these fish need to thrive; brine shrimp are not nutritious enough; and saltwater mysis is not diverse enough.

I would like to mention that it is always best to first determine what a marine fish eats and the care it needs before you acquire one.

Re: How to raise a Dragonet

The fact you purchased it without knowing its needs will never work , and this would be the same with anything you add without knowing its needs or effects .
Dragon fish like mature tanks with establish refug. for proper pod population. Pods are its needed food source and not just the ones you see.
Measure 3 times and purchase once. Bet the LFS loves you.
