Newb with questions
Hello, I am thinking about setting up a 30 gal with a fuzzy lion, and I was wondering what kind of filter I should use I know I would probably need live sand and live rock and a skimmer but I'm not quite sure on the filter I have heard that you could use an over size power filter, but I also have heard canister or wet/dry, so I am not entirely sure on this. Also would a compact lighting system work?

Re: Newb with questions
If you are planning on a skimmer and liverock, you don't need any other filter; just good routine maintenance.

Re: Newb with questions
WELCOME TO REEFLAND!
I would recommend you save money and not use live sand. The substrate you choose will become 'live' shortly after putting it with the live rock. You'll get some other ideas and things to be prepared for, by reading through this post: Setting Up a FOWLR Aquarium That is a relatively small aquarium for putting marine fishes into. Be cautious about over-stocking. You need to read this before deciding on the size of aquarium you want, because it may not fit the fish or fishes you want to keep: Fish Stocking Limit - for FO and FOWLR Come here to ask questions. We're here to help. BUT, please do a lot of reading.

Re: Newb with questions
With this fish i would do a bare bottom tank . And good flow with atleast 1 lb per gallon of LR or a mix of LR and base rock. You still need to cycle your tank and for long term success use RO or better water.
They like live food and can be nessy eaters so loose rockwork and good flow minimize the collection of uneatin food and fish waste. There worst thing is low O2 from poor flow and poor food source and high ammonia levels. Which of all take time to appear. |
