Help with Golden Sleeper Head Goby

We have in the last three months inherited a 50 Gallon saltwater fish tank. The original tank contained and still contains the following

    • 1 Blue Tang
    • 1 Scopas Tang
    • 1 Fiji Blue Devil Damselfish
    • 1 Golden Sleeper Head Goby
    • 1 Banded Coral Shrimp
    • Four snails

The Goby was added 6 weeks ago and appeared to acclimatize well despite the initial feistiness of the Damselfish.

Over the last three days the Goby has failed to appear from beneath its rock. We are not sure what to do, if anything. Should we be concerned?

    Thank you for your responses.

    Best regards.

Re: Help with Golden Sleeper Head Goby

It could be something to worry about; or it might not be. In general, new additions need some time to get used to their surroundings and other marine life forms in the display tank.

It helps quite a bit to quarantine such new additions before putting into the display system in order to train to eat, prevent introduction of disease and many other reasons found in this post: http://www.reefland.com/forum/marine...e-process.html

So, it could be that your fish is acclimating, or it could mean the fish might not come out again, or somewhere in between. The Damselfish (as you already noted) might be feisty enough to prevent the Goby from emerging from its hidey-hole during the daylight hours.

As an aside, the display aquarium you have is not good for Tangs. Tangs of all kinds need an aquarium that is no less than 6 feet long. You don't mention the size of these Tangs, but if they are longer than 2" they need a new home.
