What kind of cleaner shrimp? Coral Banded shrimp can be predatory especially if it's hungry. It's likely that it happens at night when your fish are in their sleep cycle.

Skunk shrimps are fairly peacefull but they do like to go and bother smaller guys by trying to clean them. It's highly unlikely that your skunk is killing them. After lights out, take a look whats crawling around in your tank, you might spot the culprit and where he hides out.

I think I'm going to move your thread to Lee's forum because I believe you have a 72-gal bowfront with just fish and live rock.

The "Tanks, Filtration & Basic Equipment" forum is just for discussion of equipment. If you have questions about livestock, you should post in either the Reef forum or the Fish-Only forum. The Reef forum would be for issues concerning a tank that includes corals and other invertebrates and the Fish-Only forum would be for questions strictly related to fish or to the operation of a Fish-Only aquarium.

No, your cleaner shrimp (Lysmata amboinensis) is not the problem. Large female banded coral shrimp (Stenopus hispidus) can sometimes be aggressive and sometimes pose a threat to small fish but that's really rare, and, besides, you don't have one of those. Your cleaner shrimp is completely harmless.

As Ninong indicated, the shrimp is not the problem. There are other predatory marine life forms (like the Mantis Shrimp) but I would think it would also kill and eat the other shrimp.

You are looking for obvious events already, like the fish jumping out. Now you'll have to look for an 'inside job.'

Start spying on your tank during the night, using just a moonlight on the tank or very little room light to see inside. You can also use a flashlight, but that can 'scare away' some life forms.

Lifeforms will also make short work of a dead fish. So the fish can be dieing from other problems and just 'quickly eaten.' You'll need to check water quality closely and accurately. Use test kits and report here the following:
    ammonia
    nitrite
    nitrate
Using equipment, test for these and report results:
    pH
temperature (range from lowest in the day to the highest in the day)
    sp. gr.

What kind of water are you using for source water? What water do you use to replenish the evaporated water?

Check for sources of water pollution (poisons) getting into the tank.

What is your tank maintenance like? Water changes? size? frequency? How often do you remove detritus?

List what is in the tank -- by scientific name if you can. What was added or removed from the tank during the past 2 months?

A little more info about your tank -- how old is it? I'm assuming it has live rock from the photo. When was the last time you added any live rock or landscaping materials to the tank and system?

Last would be nutrition. Verifying you are feeding the correct foods.

For the immediate time, make a very large (over 75%) water change following these guidelines: How to Make a Successful Water Change
