    Question about adding Live Rock

    Hey everybody,

I have a question. I am a proud new owner of a 29 Gallon saltwater fish tank. I have a bit of live rock about maybe 10lbs and i now have 4 fish (1 False Percula, 3 green OR blue chromis and 2 hermit crabs)

So far all is good. We had a major brown algae issue, was advised to add 3 chromis and that would help to push that ugle algae out of the tank. And it is now gone and it is great.

I am now wondering about live rock, should have thought about this before adding the fish, but my question is, If i decide to add more live rock down the road, will this hurt the fish or crabs.

I now know what cured and uncured means in live rock now, so i am thinking it may not be a good idea to add it now.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you for you support

    George

Re: Question about adding Live Rock

    George,

If all is well now, I would not encourage the use of any more live rock. Instead, look for artificial rock or base rock you won't have to 'worry about.' You may get some additional info from this post: What is Live Rock, Anyway?

Almost all 'real' live rock now would likely bring with it some die off in the tank, polluting the tank until it finally cures for the last time in that environment. This will pose problems to the marine life there already. Maybe creating another biological cycle. Not worth the risk IMHO.

Your tank is full now. No more fish, invertebrates, or anything should be added. You could get rid of the Hermit Crabs to guarantee they won't be a threat later on, and put in snails instead.

Re: Question about adding Live Rock

Hey, Thanks for the reply. I kinda figured i shouldn't add anything more. As for the Hermit Crabs, I was told to put them in there. All my fish swim anywhere from the middle of the tank to the top, so at this time i don't see the crabs posing a threat, will keep an eye on em now though lol.
