    Ideas for Stocking Tank

Hello all, I have a newly set up 75 gallon fowlr tank. I have put about 25lbs of live rock in so far and about 10 lbs of base rock. I know I will be adding to the live rock as I get more money. I was wondering if anyone could help with some ideas for stocking the tank. I would like to have a blenny, goby, blue tang, and a pygmy angelfish of some sort. Also various snails, shrimp, and possibly a starfish of some sort. Is this advisable? I would like some ideas on what type of blennies and gobies to get. Can the blue tang and small angel work together, is this too much livestock for the tank? These fish would be added gradually over time, the tank hasn't even cycled yet, what order should i put the fish in? Or does it matter? I have a wet/dry filter and vho lighting, but don't plan to get into corals. Let me know what you guys think, I am totally open to ideas and/or different suggestions of livestock! Thanks!

    Re: Ideas for Stocking Tank

    WELCOME TO REEFLAND!

I don't give fish recommendations because I think the choice of fish is very personal. I don't know what kinds of fishes you might or might not like. I also don't know if for some of those fishes you are willing to do what it takes to keep them alive and thriving.

I can say this, of those fishes you've listed, this tank is not a good size for a Tang. They grow fairly quickly when fed properly and need about a 6 foot long tank to get up to speed. They travel in the wild up to 25 miles a day! However, the Tang and Dwarf Angelfish do get along together.

For stocking limits and other considerations, you should read this: Fish Stocking Limit - for FO and FOWLR

The only other things I might mention is that adding live rock, 'as you can afford' is definitely not the thing to do. A tank will never settle down and be ready for fish if new live rock is being added. New live rock always has die-off and that creates poisons in the water which most fish can't take.

Have you read this post? Setting Up a FOWLR Aquarium

Others here may have fish ideas for you, but I'd recommend getting a good marine fish book and thumb through it. Find fishes you can keep in that aquarium and read up on what it takes to care for them, to be sure that is what you're willing to do for those fishes. Look up those fishes online; ask people about specific fishes by posting. With this kind of planning, you're bound to be successful!

    Good luck!
