...I'd worry about the other fish. how does the maroon get along with the ocellaris?
anyway, personal experience. i started with a domino damsel and it bit me. a couple of times. and it hurt. ha. good luck.
Hey all,
I recently just purchased a fish i have been looking for, for quite some time, a large (not huge, about 3") domino damsel. Just the fact that he is a damsel and he is this size makes him look huge lol. I truly think these fish are amazing when they grow to full size (6"). A LFS near me happened to have one on hand the other day and i went back tonight and purchased it for 12$ lol
I know these can be very aggressive fish. One time i saw one in a tank at my friends fish store, full size, about 6 inches, in with large triggers and other aggressive fish nearing a foot or more in length and it was completely fine for the few weeks the store had it.
This is what worries me. I plan on quarantining him for a few weeks to ensure he is healthy, and then introduce him into a semi-aggressive community tank.
The tank is 66" x 18" x 15" high, main tank volume is somewhere around 75 gallons, and there is a 55 gallon sump with a large refugium plumbed to it. Currently the fish from this system are all in individual quarantine tanks because of an ich outbreak caused by my girlfriend who decided to surprise me with a powder blue tang one day about a month or two back.
Once the tank is over it's fallow period, i plan on keeping the Damsel in the refugium until i can slowly re-introduce my original livestock which include:
A 4" powder blue tang
A pair of ocellaris clownfish (both around 2.5-3")
A maroon clown (around 2.5") which somehow gets along with the ocellaris'
A yellowtail blue damsel (around 1.5")
I then plan on introducing the Domino Damsel last, once the other fish have all worked out general territories among the around 120lbs of liverock i keep in the display.
I am ready and fully equipped to move these livestock to other tanks i have, and the powder blue may be going to a friend's 300 gal reef next year once he gets a big larger, however I wonder at people's experience keeping fishes of these size ratios together.
Any tips or experiences would be heartily appreciated.
Thanks![]()

Keeping in mind that Anemonefishes are a type of Damselfish, what you have there is a collection of Damselfishes and a Tang and hope they all get along. They won't get along.
