talk about your impulse buy!
While i've never owned a triggerfish, I have studied alot about them and felt comfortable in the event I would ever get one. So I'm at one of my favorite LFS last week and don't they have a six inch picasso with colors to die for. I have a 55 gal. with only a large snowflake in it, so I figure that i'll give it a try. The fish was only $29.99! I underestimated the mess that triggers make when eating, not to mention to number he did on my DSB as he dug out trenches, etc. The final steraw came on the third day when he tore into my eel at feeding
time. Not to hurt him, but to steal food out of his mouth. That eel has been with me since it was about six incehs long. so after weighing the pros and cons, the trigger wwent back to the store, (for full credit, I might add) The owner said that the fish should have been priced higher! What a great fish, and I'd definitely get another with a different set up. New to the board and just wanted to say something! |

personally i think impulse buying is wrong. it is very important to study the needs of the animal in which you are trying to house. i also think it is important to consider the adult size of the species. many animals end up back at the lfs for trade because they outgrow there owners tanks. can you rest assured it will go to a good home? i have a hard time giving up anything that i have nurtured.

tlc, i'm not an impulsive person by nature and i carefully weigh all my fish buying decisions based on a number of factors, one of the most important being my ability to care for what i buy. however the price was right, the fish was stunning, and i had no doubts as to how to care for the fish. He was actually doing quite well for the short time i had him, eating great, swimming actively, curious, digging in the sand, all the neat things triggers do. While a large tank is in my future, i did carefully consider all aspects befroe returning the fish, and now feel that i'd not put a trigger in my 55. i have had to return a few fish for various reasons, and i agree, it is a tough call, but i'm sure most of us do it in the best interest of the fish.
