New need help

[Supertank]

Hey guys, im new to keeping Salt water fish, i have a 240L MALAWI Cichlid tank at the moment and recently was given a 40g long, i think.lol. its 4ft long an i workout bout 190L. i am thinkg of trying a FOWLR tank to experience the worl of saltwater fish. at the moment i have the tank and a DIY stand, thats all tho i do not have a hood or light unit but that not too much hasle. would i be right to say if i run a tank with LR and deep sand bed with good water flow i wouldnt need an external filter running on the tank. im a bit confused to wat i will need. i no i will need the following

protein skimmer
Heater
Live Rock
Sand (i have read coral sand is bad??)
Power heads for water flow
Filter?? Not sure
An once i get a hood sorted i will need High output floerescents. or normal nothing too fancy since i wont have coral.

please any advice on the equipment required for a FOWLR tank would be awsome

If you're willing to not stock the tank to its capacity, then you can reach a good level of bio-load vs. bio-capacity in the tank you describe. Most people would rather put more fishes into the tank and add the extra equipment, though.
