    Tank Cycling/Ammonia Question

I've been cycling a 60 gallon tank with approx 90lb of live rock and a canister filter for the past 12 days. Although I understand that I probably have a long way to go before the cycle completes, I'm concerned that my ammonia reading has remained at 4.0ppm without any fluctuations. Is this cause for concern?

hey grip! welcome to the site! as to your question...12 days isnt too long to have that reading i dont think...but if you go to the sticky's you will find pretty much everything you need to know on cycling and when to stock your tank

    Re: Tank Cycling/Ammonia Question

The ammonia and/or nitrite spike can continue on for a while, but if you truly have live rock, this should not be happening.

I'd like you to review the start up procedure given here: Setting Up a FOWLR Aquarium

I'd like you to review the above for equipment and setup concerns. Next you want to be sure you have live rock. What more can you tell us about it? Where did it come from? Where/who did the curing? Was a curing done before you used it?

If you want help with the equipment, then list all the equipment you have and also tell us about circulation -- how many times does your total system water turn over every hour?

Next, we'd like to know more about the kind and quantity of substrate you're using. How thick is it?
