im ready to add fish!help me decide what to add first
my tank is just aching for me add a fish.its a 110g with about 150 lbs of figi and a couple inches of sand.all of this rock and sand was in a reef for about three years(tons of life even some corals on the rocks) and was moved to this tank about four months ago.the tank params. have been perfect for over three months(first time i tested)and i havent added any fish just because ive been cocentrating on my new reef setup.
i have a hang on overflow that will feed a simple ten gallon sump to hold the berlin skimmer(with rio 3100) and a rio 2500 for a return, ive been using thes two rios for a year and a half and they work flawlessly(not interested in spending any money on this tank im strictly using what i have).theres four powerheads for ciculation and a couple of ebos to keep it toasty.lighting will be about 400w pc.i also have a bunch of penguin hang on biowheel filters that i plan on using,if for nothing else than more water volume/movement. hhhhhhmmmmmmm................ that about covers it , now for the good stuff...... i plan to add a trigger ,an eel and a puffer.im not really sure exactly what kinds though, any suggestions?im thinking picasso trigger, snowflake eel(i have seen some killer eels though, anyone got any good advice or info on eels?)and?puffer. what order would you add these species to a tank? ALL feedback is appreciated ,im adding SOMETHING this weekend |

hey glad to hear your tank is ready.....snowflake eels are deffinitely safe i have never heard snowflakes causing any problems in a FO so i'd say you are safe. sharky has his monsterous snowy in a 310g with a bamboo shark i am sure you'd enjoy a snowflake as much as i do mine. if it was me i'd add the snowflake first odds are all he'll do the second he hits the water is dive right into your live rock.... the reason i say add him first is just so he can get used to his surroundings before he has to worry about competing for food w/ triggers and puffers. jmo. just a thought but have you considered a lionfish? i'm extremely partial to the lions thats why i ask. and as far as your puffer might i suggest a porcupine? i like the way they look more so than the dog faced puffers. jmo again. good luck.

yeah i do want a lion, but i really love triggers, and am worried that might not be the best mix.so the trigger is in no matter what.puffer's and eels are awesome too so i thought this would be a good mix of fish.i also feel that three fish is my max ,so i had to choose and i did.i also wanted an angel and a wrasse.
im still open to suggestions though(trigger rule applies ) |

i suppose you have a good reason for not getting a lion ....wouldnt want the trig nipping at his beautiful fins......tre is doing well i have him eating clam chunks and krill....at first he wasnt too interested in the krill but...he's coming around. he's fun to watch when he comes out the first week he was rather secluded though. i saw a great looking clown trigger today at the lfs it was no bigger than a half/dollar peice. i got to watch him and a baby lion eat it was the highlight of my day i personally dont thing they are as sloppy of eaters as my brackish puffer was! he was an absolute slob! i also saw a clown trigger about the size of a football! he was eating big chunks of squid....quite the site
i dont think i saw a fish today not eat. i think i found my new favorite lfs after you add your snowflake i'd go with the puffer personally. i have heard people saying that their trigger got a little testy with other tank mates when they were used to "running the castle" if you will. and just to re-illustrate the fact snow's are safe i will quote an exert from the newby-reef bible....."The snowflake moray (Echidna nebulosa) is, in my estimation, a fabulous aquarium species. Small by moray standards, it is compatible with other fish species and adaptable to captivity. It is certainly the most peaceful, outgoing and desirable moray. It grows to about 30in. in length and has......." Robert Fenner "The Conscientous Marine Aquarist" pg. 190..... further more i'd think it'd be a good idea for the puffer to get used to his environment before meeting his trigger pal. i just have a little bit of a hesitant feeling about the triggers they seem more like an attack dog than an animal of defense.... jmo..... i have no idea how much swimming space you have in your tank because i've never seen 50lbs of lr. let alone 150lbs. so if you are hell-bent on getting a trigger, which you obviously are, i'd say after you get your snowflake step back from your tank and ask yourself how much space do i have left over...and is there enough room for a full grown puffer as well as my trigger. if you think it'd be crampt then get your trigger and if after that you think there is room for a puffer i dont foresee a big problem between a puffer and a trigger really but you never know. hope that helped.
