hi guys another question about eels sorry if im anoying you just cant get any decent info on them from the web. my question is how long do they live in captivity? im looking to purchase one but im not sure how big to get, ive seen one its about 36 inches quite large but i dont want to purchase it if its only going to last a few more years just wandering if anyone else has any personal info to share thanks for any help. tom

I would say the eel you are looking at is a fully grown adult. There really is no way to determine its age (that i know of).

Zebra Eels can live up to 20 years +...but the big factor is how well it is being cared for.

Even if you get smaller juvenile specimen, make sure you have a tank large enough to handle its growth. They do not stop growing just because the tank is small. Also,, besides "husbandry", the quality and quantity of food it receives is going to make a big difference how fast the eel will grow.
