Post amm, nitrite and nitrate readings please
Hi,
I am a total beginner at this. I have just recently set up a 75gl marine tank. When I initially setup the tank the ph was 8.20 but after two weeks it is now 7.95. Would there be anything obvious that I am doing wrong and how can I fix this.
Right now there is only 1 damsel in the tank. All the other measures that i have taken seem to be within range and stable.
Thank you for your help.

How long has the tank been set up

you are still in decent shape, you pH is not that far out of whack, I would keep an eye on it, and see where it goes, also do regular water changes using ro/di water if available.

pH is controlled by the buffering ability of the water. The buffering ability of the water is controlled by three ingredients:
Calcium
Alkalinity
Magnesium
These three need to be kept in balance. Test for these three, move them slowly into balance, then report the pH you have.
Regarding balancing, you'll find the info in this post: What is Water Quality

During this time, did you perform any water changes?
Did you add or remove any rock, substrate, or anything else?
leebca: Thanks, i will start to measure calcium and magnesium and will see if I can bring it to balance.
ToddTT: I only added live rock
Thanks everyone.
Magnesium is the most important when it comes to PH,it keeps your PH high and stable.Without it you will have drastic Ph swings at night.
